Enjoy a Gin Tour in Scotland
Scotland may well be the home of whisky, however we think you’ll agree that the local gins are a tasty alternative and we’re lucky enough to have locations close to local distilleries! We’ve put together some of our favourite gin tours in Scotland for you to explore while you are staying with us.
Gin Tour Recommendation in Dumfries & Galloway
We’ll start our gin journey at Conifer Lodges and Auchendoon at Conifers where you can even walk to the distillery! The Crafty Distillery in Newton Stewart is around a 30 minute walk from our lodges and comes highly recommended. The tour will last around an hour and is followed by a 30 minute tasting where you will get to taste their Hills & Harbour Gin, a Distilled Gin Cocktail and their 24Seven Vodka. Buy a bottle of your favourite tipple, take a stroll back to your lodge and enjoy a gin under the stars in your private hot tub!
Gin Tours we love in Fife
Fife is a great destination for distilleries, and many are within a short drive from Balmeadowside and Vicarsford. A well-known favourite is Eden Mill who offer their Blendworks Gin School experience at the Rusacks Hotel in St Andrews, spend a couple of hours perfecting your own blend and enjoy with canapes, taking in the views from the rooftop restaurant. Don’t forget, you can also add the Eden Mill Love Gin Bellini’s to your booking as a little extra treat.
Tayport Distillery is our next stop on our gin recommendations and is only a 6 minute drive from Vicarsford Farmhouse (check your welcome book for local taxi numbers). A local family working with farmers throughout Scotland to perfect their ingredients, the Tayport Distillery offers tours that last around 1 hour 30 mins which can be booked online. Not only will you be able to sample their gin, you will also get to sample other drinks from their core range and get to take a miniature home with you.
Perthshire Gin Tour
If you are staying with us at Drumfork Estate, Persie Distillery is only 4 miles away (we have local taxi numbers in our welcome book so nobody has to drive!). You can book your liquid tour online via their website and then enjoy gin samples, a cocktail taster and a sample of their pussycat vodka. The tour usually lasts around 1 hour and 30 mins and if you don’t want to leave your dog behind, well-behaved dogs are welcome in the tasting room (they just won’t be allowed behind the scenes in the production areas of the tour). Take a bottle of your favourite back to your lodge or cottage and enjoy the perfect G&T whilst taking in the gorgeous views from your decking at Drumfork Estate.
Local Gin in Inverness-shire
Just 8 miles from Kiltarlity Lodges, the Great Glen Distillery in Drumnadrochit is one of Scotland’s smallest distilleries drawing its water source from a borehole that draws its water directly from Loch Ness. The distillery is discreetly tucked away round the side of the Loch Ness Drumnadrochit Hotel. Located in the former shop, the small distillery houses a 200 litre still named Jacqueline after the founder’s late mother and is open Monday to Friday for a personal show around with tastings. If you would like to organise a visit, please phone their team on +44(0) 1463 832590 to book.
Gin Experience in Angus
We’ll finish our recommendations of gin tours in Scotland in Angus, the Gin Bothy in Glamis is around 20 minutes away from Greenmyre Farmhouse so you may require a designated driver or to contact a local taxi company. Your group can book online and each guest can choose between the classic, seasonal or spirits of the bothy tasting options. You can also add on a savoury or sweet platter to have along with your tasting.
After enjoying any of the above Gin Tours in Scotland we’d recommend ending your day from the warmth of your private hot tub at one of our 8 locations with a glass of your favourite gin & tonic…
