We stayed in an Osprey lodge in the Auchendoon section. Much bigger than we were expecting and really well-equipped. Lovely decor. Kitchen had everything you would need. TV did have access to Netflix and the Wi-Fi was excellent for my gaming tweens. Loved the doggie welcome gift too. In terms of things to do, it’s really well-placed for getting out to forest walks. We have an electric car but just five minutes away is a fast charger so on arrival day, it took us only 30 mins to get back to full charge whilst exploring Newton Stewart. We managed to book for a tour with the dark park ranger at Clatteringshaws visitor centre which was excellent. We did beach walks, visited Wigtown for the book shops, fed the red deer carrots at the red deer range, and spent many an eve in the hot tub. We even managed a bbq on the one sunny day! However, only quibble is that the local dog-friendly food places aren’t the best. Fortunately, we got around that by ordering a wine delivery from the Wine Society which staff at reception very kindly brought to us, and by getting food to cook at the local Sainsbury’s. The fact you can walk to Newton Stewart is handy. There are some good river walks to do. Also, the museum there is a must and ask for the quiz - fun for adults and kids. A great base for the area but I’m definitely impressed with the lodge. This was our first time using Solid Luxury. I’ve now persuaded my parents to try one of their lodges in Fife next week. I might gate-crash!

This was our second time staying at sparrowhawk Lodge we love it. We always come to conifers lodges in Newton Stewart and have stayed at various lodges in here. It's a great place to relax great places to walk your dogs and a great wee nature walk inside conifers lodges. The lodge is clean, spacious and great decor. Loads of places to eat in Newton Stewart and a lovely beach at Sandsend. We will be back next year as that will be our 7th time been.

Another lovely stay with Solid Luxury (3rd-10th September) this time back at Conifers (but our first visit to the Auchendoon properties). Super accommodation to the usual high standards that we have become accustomed. Great base to enjoy the wonderful surrounding area and would highly recommend a visit to the Mull of Galloway where the scenery is gorgeous !! On this visit along with many variations of birds we were treated to a huge pod of dolphins - a wonderful site close to the lighthouse. So many various new places visited and old familiar ones as well. Many thanks for a super week away - we will be booking again soon x
