Summer Days Out in Scotland
Summer in Scotland is a beautiful time of year where the natural landscape comes alive with lush greenery, blooming wildflowers, and sparkling lochs. With the sun setting late into the evening, the days are long, giving ample time to explore the local areas our lodges, cottages, and farmhouses are located in…
A Summers Day Out at Balmeadowside Country Lodges & Cottages and Vicarsford Farmhouse
Enjoy a lazy morning taking in the peaceful surroundings and fuel up for an adventurous afternoon at Wild Shore Dundee where you can enjoy some outdoor activites including an aqua park, wakeboarding, ringo, and paddleboarding!
After an active afternoon you will want to refuel, and we would highly recommend Blackhorn Burgers in St Andrews where you can choose from a vast variation of tasty wraps, burgers, hot dogs, and salads.
To end your day, what could be better than watching the sun set at St Andrews beach? Watching the sun set at St Andrews beach with an infamous Jannettas Ice Cream…our recommendations would be Salted Peanut & Chocolate, Banana, Pistachio, Raspberry Ripple, Chocolate Rose, Oreo Cookie…in fact any flavour!!! We are HUGE fans of this ice cream shop.
A Summers Day Out at Conifer Lodges and Auchendoon at Conifers
Enjoy breakfast out on your decking, listen to the birds chirping and relax with a hot brew before making your way to Garlieston for the day.
Garlieston is a small coastal village full of charm and we would highly recommend a visit to Galloway House Gardens where you can admire the gardens from the winding paths which lead directly to the seashore and a large sandy beach where you can relax for the day, or you may wish to follow the coastal paths up the Cruggleton Cliffs and Cruggleton Castles ruins.
After a day of exploring and breathing in the fresh sea air, you will have worked up an appetite so we suggest popping in to The Harbour Inn (booking advised) for dinner, the menu has a varied choice which also offers vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options.
A Summers Day out at Drumfork Estate
Perthshire is a gorgeous area of Scotland with lots of villages to explore, one being Braemar. Why not try something a little different one summers day whilst staying with us…
Start your day with a late breakfast at The Bothy Braemar where you can enjoy breakfast from 9am until noon. This cafe was a finalist in the Great Outdoor Awards 2024 and well deserved their place! You’ll need a good breakfast to fuel you up for our suggestion on how to spend your day with Wild Braemar! Have you ever thought about wild swimming but are slightly worried about safety? Why not contact Wild Braemar and organise wild swimming with an expert on the rivers and lochs around Braemar, ending your experience in the wilderness sauna.
Finish your day relaxing at Drumfork Estate and enjoy some of our Drumfork Estate Venison on the BBQ and then sink into your private hot tub to watch the sun set over the Perthshire hills.
A Summers Day Out at Greenmyre and Little Kenny Farms
Start your day sitting down to breakfast overlooking the gorgeous Angus countryside surrounding your farmhouse along with a short debate on who will be your designated driver (you’ll need this agreed for later!).
After a leisurely breakfast, pack up the whole family into the car, including your dogs, and make your way to Glamis Castle where you can immerse yourself in history with a tour of the magnificent Glamis Castle, exploring its grand rooms and beautiful gardens. While the castle itself isn’t dog-friendly indoors, their extensive grounds provide ample space for your furry friend to stretch their legs on leash. From here, you can then head over to The Gin Bothy where you can book a classic Gin Bothy tasting or an Afternoon Gin Tea, The Gin Bothy is also dog friendly!
After a busy day, why not grab a Chinese takeaway from the Golden Palace Take Away in Kirriemuir on your way home and enjoy the end of the day watching the sun set over the fields from the comfort of your bubbling hot tub.
A Summers Day Out at Kiltarlity Lodges
See Loch Ness from the water with Canoe Loch Ness Explorer. Spend 2 1/2 hours exploring Loch ness from Fort Augustus, visiting areas like Cherry Island and Fort Augustus Abbey with a stop off on a secluded beach where you can visit a stunning waterfall.
Once you have decided on whether you are booking into the morning explorer session or the afternoon, you can then plan the rest of your summers day however Artur, who many of our regular visitors to Kiltarlity will know well, would highly recommend having a wee dram at Fiddler’s in Drumnadrochit on your way back to your lodge. Fiddler’s is a great stop for lunch or dinner…the award winning whisky is just a bonus!
As the sun goes down, head over to the firepit at Kiltarlity Lodges and toast some marshmallows and enjoy conversation with fellow holidaymakers who may be able to share further recommendations on how to spend your summer days…
A Summers Day Out at Rossie Ochil Estate
Enjoy a leisurely morning before setting out for the day, with the first stop on your journey at the Tickled Trout Cafe in Almondbank for a spot of brunch (we love their smashed avocado, bacon, egg & chilli on toasted sourdough). From here, take a 20 minute drive to the Corbenic Poetry Path where you can follow the varying paths through the wild terrain, accessing quiet corners that would otherwise remain hidden away and forgotten.
Once your exploration is complete why not drive onto Dunkeld where you can stroll through this historic town visiting the boutique shops, arts & crafts galleries, and speciality food shops before enjoying a delicious dinner at The Taybank overlooking the river!
Full and content, drive home to Rossie Ochil Estate and end your day relaxing, taking in the peaceful surroundings from your private hot tub.
