Autumn in Perthshire

The Enchanted Forest Pitlochry runs for a month from 28th September to 29th October and is always a sell out event so if you're coming to stay with us we'd recommend you book your tickets early. Pitlochry is around 30 minutes from Drumfork Estate and just under an hour from Rossie Ochil Estate.

From the 14th to 22nd October, October Tayfest in Aberfeldy offers a "family festival showcasing the best of family fun & nature rolled into one!"  Aberfeldy is around an hour from Rossie Ochil Estate and Drumfork Estate.

For those of you who are in to your mountain biking, Fair City Enduro takes place on 21st October starting in the city centre progressing up into the forests high above the city.

Carrying on with the active adventures, on the 28th October, Outdoor Explore is organising a kayaking trip along Loch Tummel at a fantastic time of year when the landscape has been taken over by the oranges and browns of Autumn. A great sight to see from the water perspective.

Let's not forget about the Halloween events running in Perthshire;

Zombie Horrorween on the 28th October will bring a zombie filled maze to Perth City Centre with a separate children's area filled with witches and wizards .....

Scone Palace offers an event for those over 8 years old, Spirits of Scone, from the 26th to 31st October. "This thrilling illuminated tour around the palace grounds includes the ancient graveyard and the ghoul's maze. Be warned; you never know who you might meet when you go down to the woods at night!"

Glamis Castle are also screening two Halloween inspired open air films.  Hocus Pocus airs on the 29th October at 3pm and Halloween airs on the 31st October at 6pm.  Advance booking for these is recommended.

Autumn in Dumfries and Galloway

Castle Kennedy Gardens in Stranraer (30 minutes from Conifer Lodges)
Visit on the 11th October for the Autumn Glory Guided Walk led by Castle Kennedy's head gardener (you'll even get a hot drink and slice of home baking!)
From the 14th to 29th October you can take part in the popular Pumpkin Trail around the Gardens, you'll receive a treat if you find the hidden pumpkins.

On 21st October why not try something a little different and visit Threave Gardens in Castle Douglas (40 minutes from Conifer Lodges) for their Bat Walks at Threave, using bat detectors you will be able to hear bat calls and learn different bat species.

For those of you who enjoy something more physical the Dark Skies Run at Galloway is perfect for you.  The race begins at Kirroughtree Visitor Centre at 5.30pm on 21st October taking you through Britain's largest forest park.

Kirroughtree are also offering some Halloween fun with the Walk of Terror on 27th October for those 14 years and above (booking essential), The Wee Spook on 28th October for those aged 3 to 6 years and the Horror Trail on 28th October for those aged 7 and above.

Autumn in Fife

Lets start with something for all you gin lovers out there...The Gin Fayre at Bonar Hall in Dundee promises to showcase over 50 different gins and is only 17 minutes from Vicarsford and 25 minutes from Balmeadowside so pop along on the 23rd September to try before you buy!

Dundee Literary Festival held at the University of Dundee, runs from the 18th to 22nd October, celebrates readers and writers, and brings the best writers in the world to Dundee.

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship (one of the world's leading golf events) takes place from the 5th to the 8th October at St Andrews Links, only 30 minutes from Balmeadowside and 20 minutes from Vicarsford.

Get in the mood for Halloween with the following events;

From 13th to 28th October venture out to Muddy Boots, if you dare, for Scotland's Fright Farm. "A fright night like no other, set in the depths of Fife, on a haunted farm….. what could possibly happen?"

Cairnie Farm in Cupar have an array of Halloween events from their apple pressing weekend (October, date tbc) to pumpkin picking (October) to their Halloween Torch Light Maze on 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st October.
